My Indian male client came to me wanting to lose weight before his wedding in just six months time – here’s how he did it!
I regularly chat to people about their health. We often talk about how little people know about the food they eat and how it affects their overall well-being, and in particular, their appearance.
This conversation started a little differently. I was talking to the director of a business about food related illnesses and attitudes and habits of eating. We spoke about a lot of different issues, the influence of stress and inflammation on the body, misdiagnosed illnesses and the build up of toxins.
I had also had a conversation with one of his colleagues prior to this conversation. But after my lengthy discussion with the director, he recommended that I chat to Sid.
Sid was going to be married in six months and he had put on quite a lot of weight over the last year or so as a result of a sporting injury and being unable to move or exercise.
When Sid and I talked about this a bit further, he said to me, ‘Ingrid, you are the only person who can help me.’ I said, ‘I would be happy to help you Sid.’
Stage One – Lifestyle Review
We started by looking at his eating patterns – what, when, why and how much.
I asked him how much sleep he was getting and if he could describe his medical issues in more detail.
He was unable to get much exercise or physical activity due to the sporting injury, and as it turns out, he was still eating roughly the same amount of food he had been consuming before the injury.
Stage Two – First Steps
The next stage involved helping Sid understand how the body works and how dieting can actually increase your body weight.
Our main mission was to change his body from using sugar for energy to using fat instead.
We also needed to identify any other underlying issues that could affect his body’s ability to heal itself.
In Sid’s case, his injury was so bad that he literally could not move his arm and this stopped him from being able to move or exercise.
Stage Three – Addressing Specifics
The next stage involved helping Sid understand how the body works and how dieting can actually increase your body weight.
Our main mission was to change his body from using sugar for energy to using fat instead.
We also needed to identify any other underlying issues that could affect his body’s ability to heal itself.
In Sid’s case, his injury was so bad that he literally could not move his arm and this stopped him from being able to move or exercise.
Stage Four – Developing New Habits
This was the most exciting stage. Sid started to realise that he wasn’t feeling hungry any more, that he was no longer addicted to eating and his injury had started to heal. He felt amazing!
By now, Sid had learnt that he did not need to eat regularly, just when he was hungry.
He started making better choices when he was out and about but he also continued to indulge every now and then. Interestingly, he did not feel deprived in any way.
I was most impressed by Sid’s mindset change. His original mission was just to lose weight before his wedding – but he has created a whole new lifestyle for himself. He is fit and healthy once again (without surgery) and best of all, I was invited to his Indian wedding and was able to enjoy the celebrations with hundreds of other people.
